Cocksure Theatre Co. was recently Critic's Choice, 4 star rating from 'Time Out', for McDonagh's 'The Lonesome West'.
Antonia Doggett's production handsomely captures the spirit of McDonagh's grimly comic Irish world. There's slapstick humour and in-yer-face-style violence aplenty from the pop-eyed, bulging-veined brothers, enthusiastically played by Johnny Vivash and Francis Adams, but John Giles' priest and Georgia Winters' Girleen also manage to tap into a deeper seam of tragedy that runs through the work, investing McDonagh's caricatural exorbitancies with some real feeling. It all makes for an uncomfortably funny couple of hours.
